Home MenuVice Mayor Kevin Lainez
Vice Mayor Lainez was elected to the Commerce City Council in June 2022, and is a proud husband and father of two young boys.
A Southern California native, Vice Mayor Lainez moved to the City of Commerce in 2012 because he wanted to raise his family in a safe, close-knit community that offered world-class programs and services to their residents. Shortly after moving here, he became actively involved in the City by advocating for fair wages from new businesses trying to relocate in Commerce. Additionally, he has led and participated in community cleanups, food and toy drives, as well as delivering care packages to many of our seniors, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic when many really needed help the most.
Vice Mayor Lainez previously served as Chairperson of the Planning Commission where he and his colleagues worked to thoughtfully bring forward new and exciting projects to develop our city’s infrastructure and diversify our city’s revenue sources to ensure better financing for our municipal services and contracts. He has also served on the I-710 Committee and the Traffic Commission as Vice-Chairperson and is currently a member on the Sustainable Transportation Equity Program (STEP) Advisory Committee where he is currently voicing recommendations to make this city more sustainable by improving our public transportation infrastructure. He also currently serves on the board of trustees on the Gateway Cities Council of Governments, Gateway Cities Affordable Housing Trust, Greater LA County Vector Control District and Southeast Water Coalition (SEWC).
Vice Mayor Lainez wants to work to make this a healthier and safer community for our families by focusing on public safety, building open public spaces, environmental sustainability and economic development to help set The Model City up for long-term success for our children, grandchildren and future generations to come.
