The Public Works & Development Services Department, through agreements with private contractors and/or professional servicing agencies, is responsible for the following:

• Street lighting
• Street marking and signage
• Street sweeping
• Surface street construction and maintenance

Reporting a Street Light Problem

(e.g. burned out, always on, or flickering)

If you notice any lights out on any street in the City, power failures at traffic signals, power outages or power lines down, please call the numbers listed below. In case of emergency, please dial 911.

It will be necessary to provide a detailed description including:

• Nature of the problem
• Nearest cross street
• Pole number (this will help expedite the process)
• Street address and/or an exact location
• Type of pole (i.e., wooden, cement or metal)

Street Sweeping Services

The City of Commerce contracts with Nationwide Environmental Services for commercial and residential street sweeping services. Generally the commercial areas of the City are swept early Monday morning between 12:00 am and 6:00 am, and the residential areas are swept between 8:00 am and 12:00 noon on the following days:

*If it rains “Street Sweeping” is canceled for that day.

If there is significant and active rain during street sweeping hours 8am-12pm, street sweeping may be cancelled. There would need to be active water flow in the street and gutter to affect street sweeping. Light drizzle or off and on light rain may not impact sweeping. Contact Public Safety with any questions.

 Note: The City participates in a street sweeping program which prohibits on-street parking on alternating days and alternating sides of each street, as indicated on signs posted for streets in the above named areas.
